It's official: Colin Kaepernick is 49ers' 'most courageous and inspirational player'

Colin Kaepernick's 2016 season with the 49ers ends with a fraction of the amount of controversy with which it began — in his own locker room, that is.

The quarterback, who sparked a national conversation when he sat for the national anthem before a preseason game in protest, earned the team's most prestigious honor Friday.

Kaepernick received the Len Eshmont Award, which each year is given to the 49ers' "most courageous and inspirational player," according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Some feared Kaepernick's ongoing, evolving protest would create a divide in San Francisco's locker room and/or cause friction between the 29-year-old and his teammates.
