Indians lose DH Edwin Encarnacion to ankle injury in first inning

Cleveland Indians designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion sustained a potentially serious right ankle sprain in the first inning of Game 2 of the AL Division Series against the New York Yankees on Friday.

Encarnacion was doubled up to end the the first when Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius made a catch on line drive and dove toward second base. Encarnacion tried to scamper back, but jammed his foot into the bag and rolled his ankle.

Encarnacion dropped to the ground in obvious pain and writhed in the infield dirt while waiting for medical personnel.
