Indians 4, Yankees 3: Yankees Continue to Stumble, Casting Shadow Over Day Honoring Andy Pettitte

When the former left-hander Andy Pettitte had his No. 46 retired and a plaque dedicated to him at Yankee Stadium’s Monument Park before Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Indians, he spoke of his need to grind his way through starts and how his love of the game revolved around that battle.

Dellin Betances, typically an overpowering reliever, surrendered a one-out bases-empty home run to Francisco Lindor in the eighth inning, highlighting the Yankees’ struggles at the plate and on the mound in their 4-3 loss to the Indians.
