DALLAS — A decade before Jordan Spieth won the first two majors of this year, he faced a stiff challenge during his first meeting with the only formal coach he's ever had.
Wanting to gauge Spieth's skill and mental toughness, Cameron McCormick tried to put pressure on the 12-year-old by placing three balls in increasingly difficult locations around one of the greens at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas.
McCormick set the final ball down in the rough and looked Spieth in the eyes. Spieth stared back at McCormick but didn't say a word.
"I expected a comment," McCormick said.
