Miami (AFP) - New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was discharged from hospital Tuesday after having his right index finger amputated following a fireworks accident that has jeopardized his NFL career.

His release comes on the eve of the deadline for the 26-year-old defender, who led the Giants with 12.5 sacks last season, to agree to a long-term contract extension after being named a "franchise player" for New York.
