The road to Brazil begins in California.
With temperatures reaching a trial-record 75 degrees, Galen Rupp made his marathon debut in Saturday'a U.S. Olympic team trials in Los Angeles for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Rupp finished first with a time of 2:11:12 to win a place on the national team.

In the U.S. Olympic women's trials, Amy Cragg was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 2:28:20.
Rupp, who got the silver medal for 10,000 meters in the 2012 London Olympics, became the second American to win an Olympic trials in his first marathon.
