Last month, ESPN decreed Ronda Rousey to be the best female athlete in sports, a decision that’d be laughable if it didn’t come from an already laughable “awards” show. There’s no doubt Rousey is great, dominant, charismatic and practically unbeatable, but where does that put the MMA star into the hierarchy of female athletes?
Quite low, I’d say. It has nothing to do with her talent or her dominant position in her sport — which, as we’ve said, is unparalleled — it’s that said talent and dominance is happening in a sport so new that even calling it a “sport” is an act of kindness.
