Early on Wednesday morning in Zurich, Swiss authorities brought charges to nine FIFA officials and five corporate executives on behalf of the United States Department of Justice. The 14 were charged with “racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies, among other offenses, in connection with the defendants’ participation in a 24-year scheme to enrich themselves through the corruption of international soccer,” according to a statement from the Justice Department.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter was not among the names listed, however, and until his name is on one of these charges, the organization will not change.
