The USC baseball team finished the regular season 35-21. On Monday, the Trojans will find out whether they earned a bid in the NCAA Tournament. In an alternate timeline, this Trojans team would be led by a senior shortstop by the name of Marcelo Mayer. However, Mayer's career wound up going down a very different path. Committed to USC in the 2021 cycle, Mayer never made it to campus after being selected fourth overall in that year's MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox and then signing with the team.
On Saturday evening, Mayer made his MLB debut at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles.
