Former Soccer Player Sues Illinois, Saying Concussion Was Mishandled

A former women’s soccer player at the University of Illinois has filed a lawsuit against the college, saying her concussion was mishandled and her career ruined after the team ignored the university’s protocol. The suit, filed Monday afternoon in circuit court in Champaign County, seeks damages of at least $50,000, though the amount could be far greater.

The lawsuit is the latest in a string of accusations of mistreatment by Illinois athletes, but the first that will be litigated. In recent months, several football players accused Coach Tim Beckman of threatening them and physically abusing teammates.
