MINNEAPOLIS — Alex Rodriguez has joined some exclusive clubs this season. He now finds himself with Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Henry Aaron and Barry Bonds as the only players to have hit 660 home runs, and he became the 29th player to have 3,000 hits, doing so in striking fashion with a home run.
On Monday, Rodriguez will join another select set: He will turn 40.
“It’s a milestone,” Rodriguez said with a knowing smile.
“Milestone” was a loaded word earlier this season when Rodriguez and the Yankees were wrangling over a $6 million marketing bonus tied to his climb up the career home run list.
