Officials for the 2022 World Cup announced on Wednesday that Qatar will maintain its ban on public consumption of alcohol during the tournament, according to Qatari newspaper, Al-Sharq. This means alcoholic beverages will be prohibited in streets and public places. It remains to be seen if the ban will be kept inside of World Cup stadiums.

Al-Thawadi, the secretary general of the supreme committee for delivery and legacy, said the country would adhere to the nation's alcohol policies, saying that those that want to drink can do so in private where allowed.
