Fan Expected to Survive Injury From Shattered Bat at Fenway

A woman who was struck in the head by a broken bat at Fenway Park on Friday night was in serious condition Saturday at a hospital in Boston, her family said in a statement.

The woman, Tonya Carpenter, was expected to survive, The Boston Globe reported, citing the Boston police. The police said Friday that Ms. Carpenter’s injuries were life-threatening. She was being treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

“Tonya’s family and loved ones are grateful to all who have reached out with thoughts and prayers but are requesting privacy at this time as Tonya recovers,” the family’s statement said.
