ESPN renews with Big Ten as conference triples media rights haul

ESPN has agreed to pay $190 million annually over six years to share media rights to Big Ten football and basketball games with Fox Sports, according to SportsBusiness Journal’s John Ourand.

About two months ago, Fox agreed to pay $240 million annually for the other half of the Big Ten package.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports will renew its basketball-specific Big Ten deal for $10 million a year.

That makes the overall haul for the Big Ten $2.64 billion over six years, or $440 million annually, nearly triple what ESPN and CBS had been previously paying for the same programming, SBJ’s Ourand notes.
