East Roundup: Temple Ends Long Drought by Defeating Penn State

This was finally Temple’s time.

P. J. Walker scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter to rally the Owls to a 27-10 win over Penn State in Philadelphia on Saturday. It was Temple’s first win over the Nittany Lions in 74 years.

Temple had not won in the series since Oct. 18, 1941. Penn State was 38-0-1 since that time, with a 7-7 tie in 1950 the only time the Owls had avoided a loss in the series.

The Owls played in front of a record announced crowd of 69,176 at Lincoln Financial Field and gave the fans who colored the stands in cherry and white what was perhaps the biggest win in the program’s history.
