INDIANAPOLIS — The final practice session for the Indianapolis 500 was conducted Friday without incident.
That outcome elicited a collective sigh of relief from Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s management, IndyCar officials and especially the competitors, who have been shaken by a series of scary accidents in trials here during the past two weeks.
“I think we are ready to race,” said Mike Kitchel, a spokesman for the IndyCar series. “We saw a lot of passing, running close together, guys able to draft up on one another” without the collisions that marred some earlier sessions. He added, “We are confident we are going to be able to put on a hell of a show on Sunday.
