Dave Dombrowski has resigned as Detroit Tigers general manager and Al Avila, who served as the team's assistant GM, will replace Dombrowski.

Dombrowski spearheaded an impressive turnaround in Detroit, but failed to deliver a World Series for the Tigers.

The team found itself in the position of seller at the non-waiver trade deadline, shipping out ace David Price (Toronto Blue Jays), closer Joakim Soria (Pittsburgh Pirates) and slugger Yoenis Cespedes (New York Mets) in a flurry of action.
