Despite coronavirus outbreak in China, Tokyo Olympics still ‘on track’

While organizers preparing for the Tokyo Olympics this summer are keeping a close eye on the coronavirus outbreak both in China and across the world, they aren’t altering any plans.

The games, they said on Friday, remain “on track.”

“We can confirm that Tokyo 2020 remains on track,” IOC inspection team head John Coates said Friday, via the Associated Press, adding that he was 100 percent confident that the games would start as scheduled on July 24.

As of Friday afternoon, the virus has infected more than 66,000 people and killed more than 1,500, according to the New York Times.
