The spread offensive is more often than not captivating to watch, mainly because of the gaps in it opens-up in defenses. Good offenses pour into those spaces at high speed, and it’s been so scintillating and widespread at the college level that coaches in the pros are starting to adopt it in the NFL.
But not everyone is a fan, specifically Seahawks assistant coach Tom Cable. Speaking to ESPN’s Washington affiliate, Cable said that the spread offensive in college is causing incoming NFL players to have “bad fundamentals,” and is taking away from other parts of their game:
“Unfortunately, I think we’re doing a huge disservice to offensive football players — other than a receiver — that come out of these spread systems.
