Chiefs LB Johnson Derrick Johnson to undergo surgery to repair ruptured achilles

The Chiefs' all-time leading tackler isn’t wasting any time getting ready to play in 2017.

A source tells Sporting News that Chiefs inside linebacker Derrick Johnson was set to undergo surgery Saturday morning to repair the ruptured left Achilles tendon suffered two days earlier in a 21-13 win over Oakland.

The procedure is being performed by renowned foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte.

The reason for the quick turnaround is because it gives Johnson “his best chance for recovery” to rejoin the team as soon as possible for next season, the source said.
