Celtics GM Danny Ainge retiring, coach Brad Stevens to become head of basketball ops

The morning after the Boston Celtics were eliminated from the NBA playoffs by the Brooklyn Nets, major changes are coming to the franchise.

The team announced on Wednesday that GM and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is retiring after 18 years. Current head coach Brad Stevens is being promoted to replace him as president of basketball ops. The news was first reported by Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

"Helping guide this organization has been the thrill of a lifetime, and having worked side-by-side with him since he's been here, I know we couldn't be in better hands than with Brad guiding the team going forward," Ainge said in a statement released by the team.
