Cap-constrained Saints release longtime guard Jahri Evans

The Saints made four-time All-Pro guard Jahri Evans a salary cap casualty on Monday.

ESPN reported that New Orleans released Evans two days ahead of a roster deadline, saving millions in the process.

Evans, 32, started to show signs of decline in 2014, and he restructured his deal last spring to help clear salary cap space. He was due to make $4.9 million in 2016, with the first $3 million of that guaranteed if he was still on the roster Wednesday.
