Canada clinches spot in World Cup with victory over Jamaica

Canada is heading to the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1986.

Canada punched its ticket to Qatar with a 4-0 win against Jamaica in front of a packed crowd of 29,122 at Toronto’s BMO Field. Cyle Larin opened the scoring in the 13th minute, slicing through Jamaica’s defence after an inch-perfect feed from Stephen Eustaquio. Larin was eventually subbed off in the 62nd minute to raucous applause.

The party was on from there as a relentless Canadian attack gave the Jamaican backline fits throughout the first half, culminating in Tajon Buchanan’s 43rd-minute insurance goal.
