Buyer's Remorse: How big spending in the NBA has panned out this season

As people around the country empty their pockets for some last-minute Christmas shopping, it feels like a solid time to evaluate the roughly $3.6 billion NBA teams unloaded to build their rosters this past offseason. The sad reality, however, is that the spending has not yet paid off for many of the teams who went heavy over the summer.

Of the teams with the 10 largest payroll increases from last season — who we'll dive deeper into below — seven of them currently have losing records. The top four in that category — Blazers, Magic, Pistons and Mavericks — have a combined record of 48-73.
