The San Francisco 49ers did the right thing by getting quarterback Brock Purdy's extension done well before training camp. Now the clock is ticking for head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.
Shanahan and Lynch already pulled off a miracle when they managed to survive the Trey Lance fiasco. They traded three first-round picks to move up in the 2021 draft and select Lance No. 3 overall. Lance was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick ahead of his third season.
For most clubs that would have been the end of the head coach and general manager who oversaw that home run swing.
