Jordan Spieth continued his quest for a Grand Slam with a fast start at the British Open at St. Andrews on Thursday morning. He finished his round at five-under par, two shots off the early lead.
The early clubhouse leader at seven under was Dustin Johnson, who heartbreakingly lost to Spieth in the United States Open when he three-putted the 18th hole.
Spieth, 21, arrived in Scotland on Monday after a playoff victory at the John Deere Classic in Illinois. He has 6 wins in his past 19 starts.
Some players and commentators expressed concern that he had not given himself enough time to practice on the unusual course and in the sometimes unusual conditions.
