The Toronto Blue Jays acquired David Price from the Detroit Tigers, the Jays announced Thursday, in an effort to bolster their starting rotation and make a run at the playoffs.
The Tigers will receive a package of young players, including Daniel Norris, a 22-year-old left-hander who Baseball America rates as Toronto’s top prospect.
The Jays have scored the most runs in baseball, but their pitching has been less consistent, and they were 51-51 heading into Thursday’s play. Though they were seven games behind the Yankees in the American League East, they still had a fighting chance for one of the two wild card spots.
