When the Yankees’ clubhouse opened Saturday morning, multiple televisions inside were tuned to “SportsCenter,” which was in the middle of a segment proclaiming the Toronto Blue Jays the hottest team in baseball.
The room was devoid of players, so the message went unnoticed. But after a 6-0 loss to the Blue Jays a few hours later, the Yankees understood the validity of the label.
A grand slam by Justin Smoak lifted Toronto as they extended their winning streak to seven games and closed to within two and a half games of the Yankees and first place in the American League East.
