The field of schools hoping for a spot in Big 12 expansion has been thinned.
According to a report from TMGCollegeSports.com's Mark Blaudschun, the conference has sent formal invitations to six to eight schools, including Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, UConn, South Florida, Central Florida and BYU. Blaudschun also said "two other AAC schools" are still candidates.

Now this report is not confirmed, but we do know Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby has formally notified East Carolina that the conference is not interested in adding ECU.
