The 2016 Belmont Stakes will not feature a run for the Triple Crown, like each of the previous two. California Chrome in 2014 and American Pharoah in 2015 each captured the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in hopes of becoming the first Triple Crown winner since 1978. American Pharoah won the Belmont in impressive fashion, while California Chrome came up just short. This time, we don't have that intrigue.
The Belmont is a 1 1/2-mile race over dirt for 3-year-olds at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., held on the second Saturday of June each year.
