For every trade that is made, there is at least one that falls through, sometimes at the last minute, like the Mets’ deal Wednesday night that would have sent Wilmer Flores and Zack Wheeler to the Milwaukee Brewers for Carlos Gomez.
It will never be known how that deal would have helped or hurt the Mets. Instead, it joins the long list of “trades that never were” that could have changed the landscape of New York baseball.
Imagine Alex Rodriguez in a Red Sox uniform. Boston went after Rodriguez hard after the 2003 season. Their failed pursuit was the subject of a 30 for 30 documentary last year.
