Baseball world mourns death of Cardinals legend Bob Gibson

The baseball world lost one of its most beloved, feared, inspiring and dominant figures on Friday with the death of St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Bob Gibson.

Few players have ever shaped the game like Gibson, whose all-time great 1968 season was the spearhead of the “Year of the Pitcher” that pushed MLB into lowering the mound to its current height. In a 17-year career, all with the Cardinals, Gibson won two World Series, two Cy Young Awards, one MVP, nine All-Star selections and nine Gold Gloves. He basically is the Cardinals’ pitching record book.
