Awful truth: Pierce's game-tying 3 was barely too late

Paul Pierce: so close, but yet, not quite enough.

At the buzzer of Friday’s Eastern Conference semifinal Game 6 between the Atlanta Hawks and the Wizards, Pierce fired a three — that, if it counted, would have sent the two teams to overtime — and sunk it.

But, unfortunately for the Wizards, the basket was waved off. Upon closer inspection, Pierce’s hand was still touching the basketball when the red light came on.

The Hawks won the game, 94-91, and clinched the series, 4-2. Next, the team will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in its first Eastern Conference finals in 44 years.
