HOUSTON — Carlos Correa’s liner into the right-center-field gap scored Jose Altuve all the way from first base in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday, lifting the Houston Astros to a 2-1 victory over the Yankees and a two-games-to-none lead in the American League Championship Series.
As soon as Correa’s line drive off Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman left the bat, Altuve, who had singled with one out, was off and running, churning around second base and picking up the sign from the third-base coach Gary Pettis, who was waving him around.
Right fielder Aaron Judge cut the ball off and fired it back in, to shortstop Didi Gregorius, whose throw home bounced in front of the plate.
