LONDON — Arsène Wenger finally earned his first win over José Mourinho on Sunday, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first-half goal gave Arsenal a 1-0 victory over Chelsea and a second straight Community Shield win.
The match, held at Wembley Stadium in London, marked the traditional kickoff of the Premier League season, with the reigning league champion, Chelsea, taking on the reigning F.A. Cup winner, Arsenal.
Wenger said his 13-match winless streak against Mourinho “didn’t play on my mind at all,” but he acknowledged that his players might have been affected by the club’s recent struggles against Chelsea.
