The Texas Rangers are in deep trade talks with the Los Angeles Angels on a deal that reunite troubled outfielder Josh Hamilton with his old club, an official with direct knowledge of the talks told USA TODAY Sports.
The official spoke only on the condition of anonymity since the deal still has not been completed.
A trade to Texas would be a stunning turn of events for the Angels, Rangers and Hamilton, who won the 2010 American League MVP award in Texas and departed after the 2012 season to sign a five-year, $125 million deal with the division rival Angels.
