ANAHEIM, Calif. – Trailing by a run against the Los Angeles Angels, the Yankees sent the top of the order up to bat against Huston Street in the top of the ninth. Brett Gardner took a halfhearted cut at strike three, Chris Young went down on an indecisive swing, and Alex Rodriguez pounded an 84 mile-per-hour sinker into the ground.
Mild, meek and weak.
If that described the Yankees’ final at-bats Tuesday night in their 2-1 loss to the Angels, it is also a portrayal of the type of baseball they are playing on this less than fruitful trip to Houston and Anaheim.
