Amir Khan had been down this road before. On two occasions and as recently as last summer, he was on the cusp of battling Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Instead, Mayweather opted for a rematch with Marcos Maidana in September 2014 and then in what he claims was his final fight against Andre Berto in September 2015. After getting passed over for those fights, it appeared Khan would face Manny Pacquiao for his retirement bout. Pacquiao opted instead for a third fight against Tim Bradley.

The question became, would Khan get the big fight he craved or would he always be the bridesmaid?
