Alex Rodriguez's final game will be spectacular yet awkward, just as he was

Where were you on July 9, 1994? Alex Rodriguez was at Fenway Park, playing the second game of his career, the same place that he played what is set to be the second-to-last game of his career on Thursday night. It was the day that A-Rod, then 18 years old, collected the first hit of his major league career, an infield single off Sergio Valdez.

Rodriguez got another hit that Saturday afternoon in Boston, then another 3,112 over 22-plus years. The hit parade has included 696 home runs, more than anyone in baseball history except Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.
