Major League Baseball has suspended Houston Astros Manager A.J. Hinch and General Manager Jeff Luhnow for one year as part of a heavy punishment for the club over a scheme in which players stole opponents’ signs during the 2017 season.

The punishment also includes the loss of first- and second-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021 and a fine of $5 million for the club.

The accusation that players on the Astros, who won the World Series in 2017, decoded and shared the signals between opposing pitchers and catchers to give their teammates an advantage while at the plate was first made public by a former Astros player, Mike Fiers, in an article in The Athletic in November.
