TORONTO -- Just six months ago, they couldn’t wait to get rid of him, praying he would go away.
Now, the New York Yankees are honoring Alex Rodriguez, announcing Friday that they will have a special pregame ceremony on Sept. 13 against the Toronto Blue Jays to honor his 3,000 career hit.
Rodriguez said he was in “disbelief,’’ when he heard the Yankees’ plans, considering the Yankees refused to acknowledge when he passed Willie Mays with his 661st homer.
Then again, there was no $6 million marketing bonus tied to Rodriguez’s 3,000th hit, joining Derek Jeter was the only Yankees in history to reach the milestone while playing for the Yankees.
