A Back Porch Filled With Stars, as Is the Nearby Hall of Fame

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — When baseball’s Hall of Famers reconvene here each year for the induction of new members, the spacious veranda behind the Otesaga Resort Hotel is the equivalent of their town square.

They can be seen huddling, gossiping and schmoozing in the morning and afternoon — engaging in a longtime ritual for one weekend annually. And it is their exclusive hideaway: They stay here, along with family members.

With pairs of white columns spanning its length, the veranda affords a wide view of Otsego Lake, where, on Friday, sailboats moved on calm waters and a MetLife blimp floated above.
