OMAHA — Vanderbilt shortstop Dansby Swanson still has not gotten over the double jolt of jubilation.
On June 8, Swanson and his teammates were on the field celebrating a 4-2 super-regional victory at Illinois and a return trip to the College World Series when the major league amateur draft started. Swanson watched on his brother Chase’s smartphone as Arizona chose him first over all. Video captured Swanson being mobbed and applauded by teammates, and he exchanged a long embrace with his mother, Nancy.
“Incredible,” Swanson said, recalling the scene. “Truly, one of the truly most amazing moments in my life.
