Oft-troubled linebacker Aldon Smith of the San Francisco 49ers was arrested Thursday night for hit and run, driving under the influence and vandalism, police in Santa Clara, California, said.

Authorities said they would provide more information in the case Friday.

Smith, one of the NFL's most talented players at his position, now has been arrested three times for drunken driving.
