OTTAWA — When Abby Wambach makes demands, they are obeyed.
With the United States and China tied 0-0 at halftime of the World Cup quarterfinal, Wambach, who was on the bench, screamed into her huddle that if the U.S. scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half, it would win the game.
Six minutes later, Carli Lloyd headed the ball into the back of the net off a perfect Julie Johnston cross.
What Wambach says, goes.
That play was all part of the USA’s most dominating and convincing performance of this World Cup as it went on to beat China 1-0.
