OTTAWA — Jill Ellis interrupted a reporter’s question halfway through a news conference at TD Place Stadium late Thursday afternoon. Her arms were folded tightly in front of her, at rest on a table behind a dazzlingly blue, strategically placed sports drink. She had a warm smile on her face.
The reporter had started to say that Ellis, the coach of the United States women’s national soccer team, had described herself on Monday night as “satisfied” with the team’s performance in its previous game, and Ellis felt the need to cut in.
“Pleased,” Ellis said with a wink and a grin.
