The Red Wings and Avalanche players of old will meet again on the ice in the Stadium Series alumni game at 7 p.m., Friday, February 26 at Coors Field in Denver and re-live one of the bloodiest, most intense rivalry the NHL has ever seen.
There were so many memorable moments; two brawls with goalie fights, coaches Marc Crawford and Scotty Bowman jawwing at each other, and, of course, Claude Lemieux's viscious hit on Kris Draper that got the Avalanche forward labeled public enemy No. 1 in Detroit, maybe even to this day.
The emotions were raw and their battles were only intensified because they were two Western Conference powers that kept meeting each other with a chance at playing for the Stanley Cup on the line.
