After Janice Monakana blazed the trail from London to the University of Toledo women’s basketball team, Rockets’ coach Tricia Cullop wasn’t sure her high school teammate Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott would take the same path.
“When we were first recruiting Jay-Ann, the first thing I remember is that she kept telling us, ‘I don’t want to go to school with Janice. I think I’m going to go somewhere else and have my own experience,’ ” Cullop said. “I really kept trying to talk to her that it would be advantageous to have somebody that you are familiar with when you travel that far away from home.
