UT women's basketball opener against Wright State canceled

The scheduled season opener for the University of Toledo women’s basketball team was canceled on Friday.

Toledo was supposed to play at nonconference opponent Wright State on Wednesday to begin the season. Wright State canceled that game and another, citing lack of available players as a result of quarantining individuals with positive coronavirus tests, those designated as close contacts, and injuries.

“As we have seen this summer and fall with professional sports and college football, disruption is likely while competing in a pandemic,” Wright State director of athletics Bob Grant said in a press release.

“We must continue to hold the health, safety, and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff as our top priority as we navigate through this current athletic landscape.
