Three days after Christmas in 2015, University of Toledo sophomore golfer Grant Godfrey hopped into his car with his friend, Darius Grey.
Godfrey was driving the car, and the two were off to watch a Cincinnati Bengals game. It was a low-key night not necessarily unlike any other for the two high-schoolers.
Godfrey, then 16 years old, recalls that he was speeding down one of the country roads in his hometown of Delaware, Ohio when his back-right tire blew out, and he lost control of the car.
